Communications Program It has been said that "science not communicated is science not done." Below
are opportunities for students to practice and enhance their communication skills.
Perpall Speaking Competition
Robert C. Perpall, a Caltech alumnus and member of the SURF Board, created the
Doris S. Perpall SURF speaking prize in 1993 as an incentive for Caltech students
to give excellent oral presentations. Good communication skills are critical,
and throughout a career, individuals have numerous opportunities to discuss their
work both formally and informally. The criteria that judges will use when evaluating
presentations for the Doris S. Perpall SURF Speaking Competition can be found here.
Gee Family Poster Competition
The intent of this prize is to encourage and support excellence in effective scientific communication. Judging will be focused on the excellence of the poster presentation. Caltech students are eligible. Judging criteria can be found here.
